Napoleonic war re-enactment with drill and firing demonstrations



The 44th East Essex Regiment of Foot, one of Britain's finest re-enactment societies, will be appearing on the village green at Wat Tyler Country Park.

A living history display comprising of an authentic 19th Century military encampment, showing the daily life of the army 200 years ago.

During this time the British army enjoyed unparalleled success under the Duke of Wellington, fighting the French before the final confrontation at Waterloo in Belgium in 1815.

Visitors will be able to chat to the officers and men, as well as their wives, partisans and camp followers. The women will be catering for the soldiers and will be happy to discuss the pros and cons of campaign catering. There will be drill and firing demonstrations, the surgeon will be on hand to administer to the wounded,

The drummers to rouse the troops and the famous 44th recruiting party will be out to recruit any "well-limbed lad" that wishes to enter into glory and take the "King's Shilling".
